Title: Linh and Connie Sam
In 1978 Linh and her five very young children escaped war-torn Vietnam and arrived in Hong Kong on the refugee ship The Huey Fong.

Just last week Connie, Linh’s then 3-year-old daughter, saw the face of her mother looking straight back at her in a photograph in my book, ‘Along the Southern Boundary’. Connie tracked me down to find out what happened on that day back in 1978.

46 years later I have reconnected with the family. These photos show Linh, Connie, and her little brother Norman, as refugees on the crowed deck of the ship. Also here is a shot of the family just before they left Vietnam, and then the same family group today in California, where they eventually settled.

The last few photos are of Linh now with the copy of my book - in which she is undoubtably the star. We have arranged to meet for a reunion on my next U.S. trip. That certainly will be quite emotional.
